Flaschar Mine

The mine from the turn of the 19th and 20th century "Flaschar Mine" is located in the locality of Nový Svět on the slope of Veselský Hill. The mine has two floors, which are connected by an 18-metre ventilation chimney. The mine is carefully constructed of waste stone, arched corridors and a spacious ventilation chimney. The Flaschar Mine is very interesting with its rich striations, which can be observed in several places in the underground exhibition. In one of the mining chambers there is an impressive, partially excavated furrow. By mining the shale, the face of the furrow has been exposed, the walls of the chamber follow its bend, which allows the rock to be traced not only in section but also in the direction of the furrow. In winter, the Flaschar mine is an important wintering ground for bats and wrens. According to archival records, Gustav Mauler quarried shale in this area in the 'Mauler Bruch' shale quarry after about 1882. In 1899, the investor JUDr. Karl Flaschar entered the shale business and in 1902 he started shale mining in the Odra - Nový Svět area.

The entrance to the mine is on the nature trail to the Flaschar mine, stopping at Flaschar mine 6. The sightseeing circuit of about 400 metres of tunnels is open to the public from 2020. For more information and a booking system, visit www.flascharuvdul.cz.

Raab's adit

The mine, which is open to the public, is located on the route of the Heritage of Slate Nature Trail. Je jednou ze sedmi štol tzv. Raabových podzemních lomů, skrývá se v levém
svahu údolí potoka Horník. Podzemní lomy zde otevřel starotěchanovický občan Johann Raab v roce 1873. The name of the stream "Horník" flowing through the valley called "Hornigsgrund" indicates that mining activity took place in the stream valley.
The publicly accessible adit is approximately 80 m long, it is run as a tunnel (across the strata), when a deposit of utility shale is found, a short follow-up adit (following the deposit) is driven, ending with a small-sized mining chamber.
